With a diary of Christmas parties that makes Santa’s schedule look like a breeze, a little red dress (one made from the most vibrant Mr C's of scarlet shades) will help you effortlessly glide through every dress code dilemma – and, according to a recent survey, ensure that you’ll be remembered for the right reasons. Scarlet is the colour that will apparently bag a boyfriend, but it’s also universally flattering and enduringly sass-tastic.
As if we needed visuals to prove that point, there’s been a flurry of ho, ho, haute red looks hitting the, erm, red carpet this past few weeks. Many of these lipstick-smacking dresses, jumpsuits and trouser suits have often been complimented by tonal accessorising. Head-to-toe red was a catwalk trend last season, but it continues to be a popular – and pretty simple to assemble - eveningwear choice.
It’s easy to channel the golden age glamour of a Jessica Rabbit type, but much of the new scarlet styling has a more masculine edge. Look to Michelle Dockery and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley for tips: the Downtown Abbey star looked understated but festive in a simple red jumpsuit from Monique Lhuillier for an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, while RHW chose a razor-sharp Antonio Berardi suit for the British Fashion Awards.

Lady Gaga went the whole hog, flourishing her red playsuit with a micro Christmas tree for a hat. And never one to disappoint, even at this most family oriented of times, Miley Cyrus certainly tackled the traditional idea of Christmas costume with her raunchy Playboy-bunny-meets-elf concoction for the Jingle Bell Ball in Los Angeles last night.
How will you rock your red this Crimbo?
