We trust by now you know your ubiquitous New Balances from your Air Maxes (thanks Alexa Chung and Phoebe Philo respectively). But Chanel sneakers? They're still a rarer breed. First seen on Karl Lagerfeld's catwalk in January 2014 at the Chanel Haute Couture beautiful bridal show in Paris and later snapped again on the front row of the inspired supermarket-themed autumn/winter 2014 RTW show, they're spreading, and spreading like wild fire. See everyone from 21-year-old Cara-idolising hipster girls to couture-buying Chanel clientele and celebrities as diverse as Kylie Minogue and Kelly Brook for details.
So how did the fashion trainer, and how specifically did the eye-wateringly expensive Chanel fashion trainer, so quickly become the mandate for insouciant, laidback cool? Well, we'd like to think it's all in the killer formula. Pair skinny jeans with a simple, round-neck jumper and a pair of trainers and you've immediately got something that's more 'I woke up like this' than 'I've been styling this look for hours'. Similarly, pair a blush-pink tweed Chanel trainer with loose trousers and a poloneck and you've got the closest we'll ever come to looking like a French magazine editor. Très chic in other words.

But what about the celebrities joining in with the new trainers-with-everything mantra? Take a look through our round-up for a look at how some of our faves have styled them out in recent weeks and months. Finally: a high fashion trend that ranks practicality and comfort over eye-popping, amazing pain. We can get on board with that.
