Has anyone else noticed Emily Blunt is fast developing a style signature for her red carpet outings? The actress has successfully made the transition from rosy-cheeked English actress to Hollywood royalty with the help of a Hollywood glam-over and an A-list hubby (hello !). Take the Golden Globe Awards last week, for example, when she was one of the best dressed stars thanks to a gold Michael Kors gown paired with a Ferragamo clutch bag. She looked sophisticated with an air of old Hollywood glamour, much like her turn at the Critics' Choice Awards. And yet again, she was showcasing a cutaway to reveal – what we are calling – her side-driff!
Yep, Emily managed to flash the flesh without going the Jennifer Lopez nada-but-crystals route and her red carpet siren secret is simply cut-outs. You know how it goes, less is more - and Lady Blunt is a fine example of exactly that. The teeny flash of flesh at the waist is way more classy than looking like you're practically naked on the red carpet. Sorry, J-Lo. For more proof, check out how much Ms Blunt has upped her red carpet game since she first landed on the fashion scene in a swath of shiny silver dresses.
The actress first tried out the now signature Blunt cut-outs back in 2010 when she attended the Cannes Film Festival wearing a fire engine red Georges Chakra gown with detailing and an inch of toned midriff. She returned to the trend in 2012 when she wore a pink gown to the Met Ball featuring - you guessed it - side cut outs. Onto the National Board of Review Awards and we saw the star wearing a blush Emilio Pucci pencil dress with slits at the shoulders as well as the waist, making the most of her lithe figure. Then, jJust a few months ago in November, Emily whacked out yet another white cut-out dress, this time by Calvin Klein. What more do you need to look chic, not showy?
So it'll be cut-outs at the Oscars for you then, Em?
