In case you hadn’t noticed last Friday was Fash Factor day at Grazia towers. Over 90 budding fashion designers queued round the block to ‘speed-pitch’ their work in strict two minute slots in front of an esteemed judging panel including designers Roland Mouret, Peter Jensen, Liberty’s Head of Fashion Buying & Merchandising Stephen Ayres, Grazia’s Editor-In-Chief Jane Bruton and Fashion Director Susannah Frankel. Doors opened at 9am on a first-come-first-served basis, although some entrants decided not to take it to chance, with the first early birds arriving at 6am to ensure they were at the head of the queue. And what a colourful queue it was; with everything from the truly avant garde to the totally crazy and brilliantly inventive – from laser-cut leather to perspex jewellery, teacup hats, dresses made from hair (real and fake) and goldfish bowls that doubled as handbags.
After the last entrants had been seen the judges stayed behind to deliberate… and we can now announce a shortlist of five who are being invited back this Friday to talk through their designs in more detail. They are (in no particular order): Kirandeep Bassan, Judy Zhang, Cassandra Verity Green, Sarah Eyton and Karen Mabon. Congratulations guys!
The winner of Fashfactor 2013 will be announced in Grazia magazine on 23rd July. You can catch up on all the day’s action at www.fashfactor.com and check back here tomorrow to see video highlights of the day.
