Diane Von Furstenberg Talks Through Her Resort Collection: EXCLUSIVE

21 June 2013 by

Yesterday afternoon we were treated to a rare audience with New York’s premier fashion maven, Diane Von Furstenberg who was in town to talk about her new Resort collection (in stores in November). Aside from being impossibly groomed and glamorous she also confessed to being a major Grazia fan, making the team at HQ love her even more. Diane walked us through her easy to wear collection in the chic rooms above her Mayfair store and imparted some bon mots along the way. Read on below to tap Diane’s wisdom.

Resort doesn’t mean anything – people are doing different things all over the world. Some people are in the city and it’s cold and some people are in St Barts and some people are in Aspen skiing. So I called this collection La Petit Valise because really it’s about clothes that are ready for anything at any time whether you wear them with tights or not.

“The most important thing for DvF always and especially even more for those collections in between is that my clothes should be like your friends. So when your eyes are swollen and you are bloated and you have your period, and you don’t know what to wear, you open your closet and you go for your friend.

The body is queen. Every dress should be made to flatter. All of the dresses really, really emphasize the body and with all those details you don’t notice which sculpt your body. Body language for me is the most important thing.

“The three things that DVF is always supposed to be is effortless, sexy and on the go. If it’s effortless it is right, if it’s sexy it’s right, but if you can’t put it in a suitcase it’s wrong.”

Accessories are about feeling glamorous and cosy. I like my bags to be soft – because your bag is your security outside your home. Now girls have everything on their telephones, they can carry smaller bags. I’m wearing the ‘On the Go Bag’ now – it was made initially for the Japanese market because they wanted small, but now it’s for everyone. Et voila.
