Any fan of vintage fashion, will doubtless be familiar with LA based emporium Decades, responsible for dressing the A-list’s great and good in show-stopping antique clothing of the highest quality for many a red carpet event.
This week Cameron Silver, co-founder of that very store, flew over bringing with him more than a touch of LA glamour – and an archive collection of designs from the original enfant terrible of French fashion, M Jean-Paul Gaultier.
Charlotte Dellal, Stephen Jones, Susie Lau, Sarah Mower (and Grazia!) all attended the MATCHESFASHION.COM store on Marylebone high street to view his installation of vintage gems, which includes an abundance of conically enhanced tops - but of course! – and more pinstripe than Savile Row.
Pieces span from Gaultier’s mid-Eighties heyday to 2008 and the collectables in question aren’t just available to fashion insiders either. 85 of them will be available on MATCHESFASHION.COM from today (2nd April, prices start at £187) so those wishing to invest in a genuine slice of fashion history might like to pay the site a visit.
The sale coincides with the opening of The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier; From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk which has travelled America and is currently winging its way to London’s Barbican (from April 9 to August 25). The retrospective is the first major exhibition of the renowned couturier’s work.
