Georgian-born, London-based David Koma is one of the capital’s most sculptural designers, coming up with distinctive silhouettes season after season. In recent weeks we’ve noticed several A-listers cottoning on to David’s talent on the red carpet and today we were especially impressed shots of his ultra-fierce show costume for Beyonce’s Mrs Carter tour. This is not the first time David has tailored looks for Bey, but the white embellished bodysuit was particularly eye-popping. We caught up with the designer this afternoon to hear about his collaboration.

“This white bodysuit was based on the recent Spring/ Summer 2014 collection, which was inspired by the Japanese martial art of Kyudo,” David explained. “Made out of thick jersey and leather with silver perspex embroidery, the outfit was made to empower the woman who wears it by creating a warrior-esque armour for her – to me, Beyonce is that perfect representation of the warrior woman: beautiful, confident and strong.” As for working with Mrs Carter David says, “It’s always feels exciting to work with such a talented and amazing performer.”

After graduating from Central Saint Martins’ MA programme in 2009 David won support from Vauxhall Fashion Scout. Sponsorship then came from Topshop's New Gen scheme and now his label is a mainstay of the London Fashion Week Schedule. Over the past month he’s also dressed Miranda Kerr, Karolina Kurkova and Amy Adams for the red carpet, so how does it feel to see his dresses on such photogenic faces? “It’s a huge compliment and a privilege to have such incredible women chose to wear my label,” he says, “It also motivates me to create something new and special each time.” Congrats David!
