Kate Moss and David Bowie at the 2005 CFDA Fashion Awards [FilmMagic]
There's no doubt David Bowie has been ALL OVER planet fashion this year. He's been named as Louis Vuitton's new campaign star, he bagged the likes of Tilda Swinton and Saskia de Brauw for his recent music video and we've seen Lady Gaga and Kate Moss channelling his signature look. Not only that but he released his first album in over a decade and was the subject of the V&A's fastest ever selling exhibition. And did you nab a piece of Illamasqua's makeup tribute collection? Yep, us too. So it comes as no surprise to hear Mr Bowie has been awarded the accolade of best dressed Briton in history.
The honour was decided by BBC History Magazine's poll in which Bowie recieved no less than 48.5% of the votes from the British public. The iconic musician beat off an array of style stars including Elizabeth I and Beau Brummell to bag the top spot. Pass us the ginger mullet and starburst makeup in celebration!
The V&A's retrospective of David Bowie's work - and in particular his eye-popping, mind-blowing stagewear and costumes - proved that the 66-year-old singer's style continues to inspire. We're still loving those patterned trousers, a Bowie wardrobe staple that he utilized right through his career from Ziggy Stardust through to Labyrinth. And let's not forget his unnaturally maroon mullet that's no doubt aided the trend for hair to be dyed in all shades of unnatural, from pastel pink through to deep red shows no signs of letting up yet and has been adopted by a plethora of celebs.
So in honour of Bowie being best dressed, we've picked out the star's most iconic looks from his long and never-endingly creative career. Enjoy a blast from the past in the gallery below...
