Cruella de Vil Or Kate Middleton: Which Dalmation Hits Your Style Spot?

Kate V Cruella: Who Wins?

The Duchess of Cambridge and Cruella de Vile, not two ladies who would necessarily fall into the same style camp. Or do they? As Kate Middleton made her final public appearance before the much-awaited arrival of the latest addition to the royal clan, she donned her favourite kind of thing: a dress coat. So far, so un-Cruella. This particular piece was from Hobbs (one of the DoC’s top high-high street go tos) and featured a dalmation spotty print. Yes, dalmations. Now you see the connection, right?

Of course, the fictional CdV was a rather big fan of dalmations. 101 and one of them to be precise. But these black and white mini spots don’t begin and end with this unlikely wardrobe pairing either.

These monochrome dots aren’t widely available – they’re kind of a micro print trend - but search hard enough and you’ll find a pedigree of dalmation pieces from Preen to H&M. As a subtle animal pattern they’ll easily slip into a wardrobe, and while we particularly like pairing up monochrome with true blue denim, you could play it safe and pretty a la K-Middy, or wild and fierce like Cruella.

Naturally, Kate’s choice has sold out on the Hobbs website, but you can still pick up the mac on the House of Fraser website. Well, you could the last time we checked anyway!

If you fancy dipping into the dalmation trend, then here are a few other options…

Hobbs coat £169 at House Of Fraser

Fashion Union creepers £15

H&M shirt £7

Preen dress £815 at Matches

Loeffler Randal £232 at Shopbop.com
