Kooky and quirky shades have been the must-have accessory of the fashion savvy celebrities this season, from Rihanna’s pearl studded Chanel frames, to Cara Delevingne’s diamond-shaped Le Specs and Jaime Winstone’s colour-popping Henry Holland designs. But one stand out style to emerge from the 2013 sunglasses-fest, are the '50s inspired ‘Cat Eye’ sunnies.
Katy Perry has long been a fan of the feline design, sporting a pair at Paris Fashion Week back in February 2012 and more recently at The Ritz in Mexico – well she does love all things kitty. Dedicated fashionistas such as Rita Ora and Tennessee Thomas have also been showing off their retro designs and Miranda Kerr has often been spotted wearing Miu Miu’s subtle adaptation of the 'Cat Eye' shades. Of course, where there’s a hot new trend, there’s Kate Moss, and last week the model stepped out of the Dorchester Hotel wearing a white style reminiscent of 50’s starlets Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe. Proving a good pair of shades is always chic, Kate wore hers at night!
As if a nod from Ms Moss wasn’t enough, Chanel have given the retro sunnies their stamp of approval too and Dior’s 2013 signature shades, including the Dior ‘Frozen’ and ‘Demoiselle 2’ also have a feline twist. Luckily for us it’s not just the top fashion houses who have sunk their claws into 50’s eyewear, high-street heroes Topshop and Whistles boast an amazing range of 'Cat Eye' sunnies, from super retro styles to more subtle shapes a la Miranda.
