Alexa Chung is the style icon who's spawned a thousand imitators. Since landing the gig of presenting T4's Popworld back in 2006 there's barely been a week when the fashion queen hasn't topped a best-dressed list (or three). In the latest issue of Grazia, our Big Fashion Issue in fact, we speak to Alexa about turning 30, work insecurities and how strange it is to see someone steal her style. Pick up your issue now to read the interview by Francesca Babb in full, but in the meantime, you can browse all our Alexa Chung Week content on Grazia Daily, from a fashion timeline and friendship map to her hairvolution and style rules...
You've heard of six degrees of separation. You may have even heard of six degrees of Kevin Bacon. However when it comes to the Fash Pack we're all in agreement about who connects the most dots. Derek Blasberg may be one of the most popular men on Planet Fashion, but thanks to her nifty style skills and transatlantic career, his bessie Alexa Chung has amassed more fashionable friends than you could squeeze into a trendy after-show party.
It all began with T4, where Alexa, along with Rick Edwards, Miquita Oliver and Steve Jones interviewed Hollywood actors, rock stars and fashion's finest. The Chung garnered a reputation for her chic look and droll presenting style and the fashion industry - and the British public - took note. Soon enough Alexa was sitting front row at the likes of Mulberry, Luella and Christopher Kane, and all that shoulder rubbing resulted in some genuine friendships.
In 2009 the style icon made her biggest leap yet, a move to New York to host 'It's On With Alexa Chung'. The concept saw Alexa inviting celebrities into what felt like her Big Apple loft apartment, and some of the guests were or became her mates. While the show itself didn't stand the test of time, Alexa remained in New York where she hangs out with the likes of model Jessica Hart, musician Tennessee Thomas and DJ Leigh Lezark.
Of her A-list friends and life in Williamsburg she told Grazia, ‘The other day, I bumped into Florence (Welch) and Daisy (Lowe), who were staying at the Bowery Hotel. It was Sunday and I had to file copy the next day, so I had my laptop with me. We go up to their room and Florence starts singing and draping scarves over lamps, Daisy strips off to her matching underwear, and I’m wrapped up in jumpers smoking a cigarette with a laptop. None of us were hanging out, we were just being us. I’m trying to get more work in, over- achieving, Daisy is floating around being sexy and Florence is just singing away.’
Yes there's no doubt that Alexa's life is REALLY quite fabulous.
