Chopard Reveals The Jewels Worn By Naomi Watts As Princess Diana In 'Diana' Film

As if we weren't excited enough by the September release of Princess Diana biopic, Diana, starring Aussie actress Naomi Watts, Chopard have just been announced as the official jeweller for the movie. The Geneva-based brand were responsible for adding a little sparkle to the big screen as part of an exclusive collaboration with the film, which is produced by Award winning British company Ecosse Films and re-creates the late royal’s most famous moments.

Chopard have a long history within the film industry. As well as participating in major international events such as the Cannes Film Festival, the jewellers have worked on numerous feature films including Elizabeth: The Golden Age (Shekhar Kapur), Nine (Rob Marshall) and Midnight in Paris (Woody Allen). However, Diana brought an added pressure as the team wanted to provide a realistic insight into the Princess’s extraordinary jewellery collection.

Caroline Scheufele, Chopard’s Co-President and Artistic Director, who worked with the film’s Costume Designer Julian Day, revealed: ”When I received the offer to work on the film Diana I was thrilled because, to me, she was a person blessed with extraordinary charisma and great elegance, both in her personality and her style. After having worked on the film Nine in 2009, this new partnership was exciting, even more so because Naomi Watts is a fantastic actress.”

Necklace in platinum set with fancy-cut diamonds (78cts); Necklace in 18ct white gold and titanium set with cushion-shaped diamonds (69cts), pear-shaped diamonds (22cts) and brilliants (acts); Earrings in 18ct white gold set with grey cultured pearls (48cts) and brilliants (acts); Ear clips in 18ct white gold set with oval-shaped sapphires (20cts), oval-shaped diamonds (3cts) and brilliants (acts); Watch from the Happy Diamonds Collection in 18ct white gold set with moving diamonds, baguette-cut diamonds and brilliants (1ct).

A selection of jewellery and other accessories appear in the final cut including pieces from Chopard's Happy Diamonds collections. Diana often wore earrings without any other jewellery as they suited her signature cropped hairstyle and Chopard provided a pair made from oval sapphires and set with diamonds to echoe the earrings that matched the Princess's famous engagement ring, which her son William used to propose to his (now) wife, Kate.
