Last night at the Noah London premiere Emma Watson side-stepped the LBDs and made a big statement in a white halter neck Ralph Lauren gown. It was oh so slinky with a slit, open back and hand-pleated silk georgette panel at the hip. We were there on the red carpet and gasped as soon as her white stiletto hit the stormy Leicester Square seas. Hermione Granger, who?
It's a bold (and surprisingly sexy) move for Emma Watson who usually sticks to tuxedos and a moody colour palette. An ivory slashed, body-skimming gown is more of a Rihanna move - if you wear a fitted white dress you're guarenteed to get the flashbulbs going. A slinky white gown is a red carpet right of passage - any true A Lister has at least one knock out white gown in their red carpet archive. Emma Watson is showing the world she has come a long way since those tulle princess gowns she wore to her Harry Potter premieres.

Emma joins a long list of stars who have side-stepped colour and rocked all white everything, as the red carpet has been a total white wash over the past few months. The stars have been painting the red carpet white recently, from Lupita Nyong'o's cut-out Calvin Klein Collection at the Critics Choice Awards to Cara Delevingne's sleek white Burberry suit. Speaking of white tailoring we heart Naomie Harris in a white Burberry skirt suit with detailing on the shoulder, with nothing underneath her tuxedo jacket. This trend isn't likely to die down any time soon, as summer screams white on white on white. How better to show off a Barbados tan than with an LBD?
The LBD (little black dress) is a popular option for the Hollywood set - it's simple but stands out, what's not to love? Rosie Huntington Whiteley made our jaws drop at Cannes last year in a strapless Christian Dior number with a high-low hemline. Emma Watson also did the LBD thing at the Gravity premiere last year, in an off-the-shoulder J.Mendel mini.

Then we come to the floor-sweepers. Diane Kruger opted for a white sleeved Elie Saab dress with a sheer white skirt and white belt at the Berlin Film Festival. No one does a white floor-sweeper quite like Sharon Stone, who was a total knock out in a high-neck Roberto Cavalli gown, with snake detailing on the back, at the AmFar Gala in Cannes last year. The aim is Gwyneth Paltrow in caped Tom Ford and Charlize Theron in ivory Christian Dior at the Oscars. Mary Kate Olsen's white deep V floor-sweeper is also one of our favourites from the vault.
