The Duchess of Windsor wearing her amethyst, turquoise and diamond necklace created by Cartier in 1947
Can you believe Cartier began way back in 1847? It all started with three brothers at the helm - Louis Cartier in Paris, Pierre in New York and Jacques in London. It was in 1904 that Louis created the first ever modern wristwatch, the Santos, for famed aviator Alberto Santos Dumont. Then came the Panthère thanks to Jeanne Toussaint, Director of Jewellery at Cartier in 1933. Next up came the LOVE bracelet that has gone on to grace A-lists wrists from Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton to Sophia Loren and Carlo Ponti, all encased by the legendary Cartier red box.
Kristen Stewart and Kate Middleton are famous Cartier fans
But we're most excited about the fact there'll be an array of gems on display. Yes, the seven ‘wonders’ of Cartier will be exhibited inside the Selfridges pop-up for us mere mortals to gawp at. In anticipation, we've compiled a few of the best beauties in the gallery above, from the Star of the East diamond acquired by Evalyn Walsh McLean in 1910 to the Panther clip brooch made for the Duchess of Windsor in 1949. Which takes your fancy?
