UPDATE: Oh, what a sight! Some of the most beautiful women in the world hit the catwalk last night - and it was all for a good cause! Organised by Carine Roitfeld, the spectacle took place during the annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS gala held at Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc where an abundance of stars arrived in their glad rags to raise money for charity.
On the catwalk, Carine enrolled everyone from Jourdan Dunn and Karlie Kloss to Alessandra Ambrosio and Barbara Palvin to strut their stuff. Each model donned a red dress custom-made for them by no less than 40 different design houses, including Alexander McQueen, Alexander Wang, Burberry, Chanel and Christian Dior. Wowsers.

The theme was Marilyn Monroe and although we hoped to see some glitzy gold numbers and polka dot frocks, the model army certainly upped the sex bomb ante. Speaking to WWD about having Marilyn as a muse, Carine said, 'She searched for love all her life, and I think she would have been a big supporter of the foundation.’ Indeed!
The fashion maven also invited her daughter Julia Restoin Roitfeld to stalk the red runway, enlisted actress Sharon Stone to host the show while Lana Del Rey performed. Sounds pretty fab to us.
14 May 2014: Our 10 Dress Predictions For Carine's Cannes Catwalk
Carine Roitfeld has put the amfAR gala in Cannes on the fashion map. It is now an important date in the industry’s calendar, highlighting a very important cause in a very glamorous way. Going into her third year in a row, the event raises awareness and money for amfAR, which is a foundation for AIDS research, and along with the editrix masterminding the ultimate runway for a bevy of fashion’s forerunners to feast upon, you’ll also find the starry likes of George Clooney, Sarah Jessica Parker and Sharon Stone hitting the red carpet to show their solidarity.
Last year’s theme was black and gold, but for 2014 Carine has dedicated the catwalk to Hollywood’s ultimate wardrobe inspiration and sasspot: Marilyn Monroe. Befitting the location – remember, Cannes will be chock-full with the A-list actors and actresses of our day thanks to the film festival – the original starlet’s golden curls, wiggle dresses and cheeky cashmere will no doubt play a central part. Most importantly, her scarlet lipstick will make its influence known: Carine shall be painting the runway red; also nodding to the foundation’s red ribbon, a marker of their battle against AIDs.
With custom designs coming from Lanvin, Alexander McQueen and Marc Jacobs we can’t wait to see the modern take on Miss Monroe’s enduring style legacy. Will we see white knife pleats? Pink satin? A ballerina tutu? Or a model sans clothes with just a spritz of Chanel No.5? Here we’ve chosen the 10 Marilyn-worthy outfits we’d imagine hitting the amfAR show - scroll through the gallery below...
