Cara Delevingne On Her Mulberry Campaign and Why She’d Love To Design A Cara Bag: EXCLUISVE

Another week, another fashion campaign snagged by model of the moment, Cara Delevingne. This time around it’s home-grown brand Mulberry tapping the 20-year old’s star power for their A/W 2013 ads. Shot by the fanatical fantasy photographer Tim Walker and co-starring a parliament of owls, the campaign also showcases Mulberry’s hot new Willow tote. So why did Ms D decide to be Mulberry’s face this season? We caught up with the young model exclusively to hear how she feels about her tie in.

Grazia Daily: Why did you want to work with Mulberry for this campaign?

Cara Delevingne: Mulberry is such an iconic brand - it’s British, and I love the bags and clothes.  Plus the campaigns are inspiring - they have a tradition of working with such cool models and creative teams.  Tim Walker shot this campaign - it’s not the first time I’ve worked with Tim - but it is my first campaign for Mulberry and I really admire his work. He’s an artist, a great visionary, so I was very happy to find out I was shooting with him again.

Grazia Daily: What are your favourite memories of working with the brand/ doing the Mulberry shows?

Cara Delevingne: I walked in my first Mulberry show last season, and it was beautifully produced with a magical period vibe.  It was also a lot of fun, you just needed to hang out backstage and be a fly on the wall to see.

Grazia Daily: What were your favourite moments of shooting this campaign - was it a fun shoot?

Cara Delevingne: It was an amazing shoot - I got to shoot with owls! I love working with animals and especially owls. The best moments were when all the owls kept poo-ing on me - there was a real problem with poo on this shoot!

Grazia Daily: What does the Mulberry label mean to you? Do you and your friends wear Mulberry's bags?

Cara Delevingne: Mulberry is such a great label. As well as being an iconic brand, the products are sexy and cool. It’s one of those brands that everyone needs a little bit of in their wardrobe.  And it’s not just the handbags - the luggage is gorgeous and I especially love the trainers.

Grazia Daily: What is your favourite Mulberry handbag?

Cara Delevingne: My favourite Mulberry bag would be the Cara bag…actually that hasn’t been made yet! I want to design a Mulberry bag, there needs to be a Cara bag. I have so many ideas, Mulberry need to call me. And they have to let me design trainers too!

Grazia Daily: Do you remember being aware of the brand when you were growing up - what was your perception of the label back then?

Cara Delevingne: I never really knew about fashion until I started modelling and then I became aware of the premium brands and I fell in love with Mulberry.  They’ve done a great job of making it relevant for my generation as well previous ones.  I love the simplicity of the products, it’s a very understated label and I love how you can wear it with everything.

Grazia Daily: What is your favourite thing about working with the Mulberry team?

Cara Delevingne: I really enjoyed the shoot, everyone collaborated and it was a great creative energy to be surrounded by.  The sets are pretty spectacular - they always put a brilliant team together. Oh and there’s always lots of delicious food!
