You can always trust Cara Delevingne to give an honest answer and this month the Brit supermodel, who turned 21 yesterday, has given a no holds barred interview to W Magazine. Billed as the 'Anti-Role Model', Cara speaks candidly about the stress of the spotlight, her friendships with Kate Moss and Rihanna and how her childhood ambition has shaped her career - here's what we've learnt from her latest editorial cover shoot...
1. She's not picture perfect
Despite being the face that launched a thousand advertising campaigns, Cara struggles with a skin condition called Psoriasis, which is exacerbated by stress. Unfortunately contrary to popular belief the life of a jet-setting model ain't easy. She explained, “It only happened during Fashion Week! Which is, of course, the worst time of the year for me to be covered in scabs. Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease, and I’m sensitive."
2. Kate Moss has got her back
Luckily help was at hand in the shape of veteran catwalker Mossy, who showed her young protégé shed loads of sympathy. Cara revealed, "Kate [Moss] saw me before the Louis Vuitton show at 3 a.m., when I was being painted by people to cover the scabs. She said, ‘This is horrible! Why is this happening? I need to help you.’ She got me a doctor that afternoon; Kate gives really good advice.”
3. She didn't want to copy Poppy
There's no question about whether or not Cara adores her older sister Poppy, but the aspiring singer and actress didn't plan on following in her sibling's footsteps as a model. She said, “Poppy was a model, and I never liked to do the same things my sisters did. After the Bruce Weber shoot, I didn’t think about it. I wanted to be either a musician or an actress.”
4. But she did want to be Hannah Montana
Cara dreamt about being the next Miley Cyrus - “I wanted to be a Disney Channel star! I wanted to be Hannah Montana." Unfortunately her parent said N.O. to getting her an agent aged 12.
5. Tim Burton sparked her acting passion
Cara's next shot at fame was an audition tape for Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. She didn't get the part, but did get the chance to meet the director, an encounter that she claims "lit a fire in me.”
6. She can take care of herself
CD receives plenty of stick for her wild partying ways, and she's getting a little fed up with all the mollycoddling: "People have to realize that I can take care of myself. I’ve done a great job so far.”
7. She gets lonely too
In a world where celebrities seem to chop and change their relationships on a weekly basis it's refreshing to know that A-listers can feel like lonely singletons too. Cara confessed: "I was just on holiday for three days in Greece with my sister, and I thought that would make me happy and relaxed. But when I stop everything, it’s really bad. I go crazy. In Greece, it was a lot of couples, and I felt alone, which made me sad.”
8. But luckily her friend Rihanna is a wise old bird
Who does Cara turn to when she needs a pep talk? RiRi of course! The singer gave her model pal her own take on surviving the craziness of fame. Cara said, “I called Rihanna. She said ‘It’s easy to drown yourself in work. That’s a form of escapism. So, if you’re alone and you want to cry, cry.’”
