Is Shellfish Jewellery Now A Thing? Cate Blanchett Wears Shrimps In Her Ears At Cannes Festival

Cate Blanchett attended the Trophée Chopard event over in Cannes on Thursday evening in a spectacular Valentino grey sheer embroidered lace gown, with feathered sleeves and collar. The sheer lace and quirky collar make this a textbook winning Cate dress. It is also reminiscent of the flowing Giorgio Armani embellished gown she wore to the Oscars this year.

The actress always brings a quirk to the red carpet, whether that is with an unlikely colour combination or a directional structure. Last night Cate championed shellfish (seriously), as she wore shrimp earrings from Chopard's Animal World collection, which was released to celebrate Chopard's 150th birthday.

Out of the 150 animal pieces on offer Cate went for the shrimps, which is most likely a nod to her home Australia - or perhaps the excellent shellfish on offer in the Riviera. The actress was presenting the annual Chopard Trophy, which was awarded to young actors Logan Lerman and Adele Exarchopoulos.

There are a few things guarenteed each year at the Cannes Film Festival. Stars wearing stilettos on yachts; thousands of Roberto Cavalli gowns; beautiful men in tuxedos. One thing we can always count on is that the stars will be drowning in diamonds. We have been keeping an eye on the rocks, as well as the frocks, on the red carpet so take a look through the gallery below to see this year's most impressive (and bonkers) jewels...
