Lazy Oaf x Kickers
Buffalo boots, Palladiums, tractor-sole stompers a la Stella McCartney, DMs, Timberlands… you name a pivotal style from the ‘90s footwear archive and it’s highly likely that the past year has played hipster home to a big street-spotted comeback. Throwback fever doesn’t show any sign of stopping because this week's old/new offering from the decade of grunge and rave, are.... Kickers. They’re back with a bang and, like so many retro revivals, the boys started it first.
GraziaDaily fondly remembers wearing Kickers to school – with the leather tag labelled still attached, d’accord - showing them off cemented one’s status symbol of utter I’m-almost-in-sixth-form coolness.
We’ve spotted Kickers out and about on the streets over the past few months, but it’s a five piece collaboration with Lazy Oaf (the cool London-based brand whose cartoony sweats and accessories are loved by a varied clientele including Cheryl Cole and Iggy Azalea) that has really put a stamp on the idea. “I have a fond nostalgia for the Kick Hi boots as I used to cherish a white pair when I was 11. I loved them so much that I even wore them with my bridesmaids dress much to my Auntie’s dismay. But this was in 1990!” divulged Lazy Oaf’s designer Gemma Shiel, “So I strongly associate Kickers with my early teens and school years in the nineties which is always my 'go to' decade for design inspiration and reference.” So there you have it folks. Are you doing Kickers for the second time or first? What will you wear yours with? Or will you not touch with a proverbial bargepole? We expect record backs to make a return any day now…
