With fun collaborations with wacky brands such as Louise Gray and Rodarte, masterpiece footwear creations for several London Fashion Week shows, and more recently, THOSE Victoria's Secrets shoes, it’s no wonder that Nicholas Kirkwood took away the Accessories Designer Of The Year at the British Fashion Awards last night.
His coveted prize was presented by model Susie Bick at the ceremony held in London's Savoy Hotel. In his acceptance speech the shoe master said: "I’m honoured and nervous. I'd like to thank the British Fashion Council and my amazing team and my Mum and Dad and Philip Treacy who gave me my first job when I was 18. As much as I might have been a bit of a useless shop boy I learnt a lot. His beautiful creations inspired me to start my own line."
Some of the most stylish celebrities have been seen out in a Nicholas Kirkwood heel; Alexa Chung, who picked up Style Icon Of The Year, for the third year running, regularly likes to sport a Kirkwood heel, along with Rita Ora and Samantha Cameron.
Like many other celebrated designers, the footwear protégé studied at Central Saint Martins and launched his eponymous collection in Spring 2005. The Pollini creative designer brings together a blend of romantic ideals and modern aesthetics to his own label, creating innovative designs that everyone wants to be wearing, us included!
