20 Things We're Looking Forward To At The British Fashion Awards 2012 - Tomorrow!
GALLERY >> What to expect from the BFAs
Tonight is the BRITISH FASHION AWARDS! Yes, we're a weeny bit excited.
As ever, Grazia Daily will be reporting LIVE from the red carpet at The Savoy Hotel, where the event will be taking place from 5:30pm. Will it live up to last year's ceremony? Will VB and Mossy make an appearance? Will Alexa Chung win AGAIN? And who will be voted British Style Icon, as voted for by you, the public?
Who knows. What we DO know is the British Fashion Awards celebrate the breadth and depth of talent in the British fashion industry from the emerging stars to the designer brands, models and style icons with the ultimate accolade being awarded to the Designer of the Year. Basically, it's the Oscars of Fash Land.
So we've had a think about the things we can expect at tomorrow's shindig, from actual royalty to bonkers outfits and the Beckhams going head-to-head. Take a look through the gallery above and check back here tonight to see if we were on the money...
1. Fashwan gossip
Will Balenciaga's new designer reveal him(or her)self? Will an unexpected pregnancy be unveiled a la Beyonce at the VMAs? Will Cara Delevingne dish on her girl-mance with Rihanna? We'll be keeping our ear to the ground for any tasty fashion morsels from the red carpet and inside the ceremony.
2. Emotional speeches
Aw! Remember when little-known-stunner Jourdan Dunn scooped the model of the year award in 2008? Here's hoping for more heart-felt blubbering and thanking of mums, hairdressers and dogs. And another random appearance from Christian Slater. Look! There he is!
3. Alexa Chung
In 2010, she won the Style Icon Award, the only accolade decided by the public. She won it again in 2011. This year, Alexa's been nominated for the same gong but can she bag a hat trick? Surely, that'd just be greedy.
4. Beckham fash-off
BUT! Hold your horses, Alexa. Both David and Victoria are up for the coveted title of British Style Icon thanks to their sartorial know-how. From Becks' bodywear collection for H&M to VB's designer wardrobe and coveted designs, it's no wonder this couple are considered ambassadors for British style. But which Beckham is more worthy of the BFA crown?
5. Manolo Blahnik's win
Meanwhile, this one's already in the bag. The shoe master will be picking up the Outstanding Achievement Award as a tribute to Manolo’s extraordinary career and contribution to the fashion industry. Consider the champers on ice!
6. Fashion scheming
'C'mon Marc, David would look great in the Louis Vuitton ad.' Oh, to be on a fly on the wall when Marc Jacobs and Victoria Beckham were having a chinwag at the awards in 2011. When these designers get together, you never know what they could be plotting... Bring on the next sartorial scheme!
7. Actual royalty
At the 2009 shindig, a radiant Natalia Vodianova got chatted up by none other than Prince Andrew - while daughter Beatrice watched on. Eww. Will there be a real prince or princess or even QUEEN in our presence this time round? Go on, K-Middy, you know you want to.
8. Unexpected friendships
Speaking of Princess Bea, who knew she's pals with a Geldof? The BFAs have the power to bring unlikely friendships into existence and these two cosied up at the ceremony back in 2009. Pixie's goth glam look didn't rub off on Bea, however. Funny that.
9. Swooshy dresses
Yes, expect TONS of gorgeous gowns to hit the red rug courtesy of our homegrown design talent, including Stella McCartney, Matthew Williamson and Alice Temperley. The stars will be working their glad rags, much like Tara Palmer-Tomkinson who was a whirlwind of chiffon at the BFAs in 2008.
10. Bonkers outfits
As well as hoards of glamorous gowns, there'll be the odd what-the-heck-are-you-wearing outfits too (fingers crossed). We're pinning our hopes on Daphne Guinnes doing us proud. Seriously, when else can you wear Gareth Pugh's full-on body armour? Well, exactly.
11. Impossibly gorgeous models
The red carpet will be literally heaving with 6-foot glamazons, air-kissing their way past the paps and throwing their lithe limbs around one another. So we can expect to see model armies much like this one, which consisted of Claudia Schiffer, Erin O'Connor, Anouck Lepere and Jade Parfitt. Better pack our sky-highs.
12. Also: impossibly tall models
Ok, it goes without saying that models are pretty tall, but we just love this shot of Zandra Rhodes and Erin O'Connor at the BFAs back in 2006. Where's that stack of Yellow Pages when you need it?
13. Top notch designers
Phoebe Philo, Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs, Christopher Kane, Sarah Burton... they've all walked the BFAs red carpet in years gone by. But will they be returning this year?
14. ...and Hollywood stars
Remember when Emma Roberts rocked up to the awards in 2010 on the arm of Burberry's Douglas 'swoon' Booth? This year, we've got our bets on Chloe Moretz or Elle Fanning providing the A-list glitz.
15. Fabulous headgear
Hat masters Stephen Jones and Philip Treacy must be rushed off their feet this week preparing suitably eye-catching creations to be worn a-top those A-list heads. But which will be the MOST bonkers?
16. Riotous rockstars
What fun we had when Johnny Borrell started jostling with the paps backstage in 2010. He grabbed a camera, started snapping model girlfriend Edie Campbell and then got shouted at. Hee-larious! Which crazy kid will be causing mayhem this year? There's gotta be one.
17. Designer muses
Forget the Met Ball, the BFAs is where our homegrown talent can showcase their creations on their most beautiful of muses. Take Matthew Williamson and Poppy Delevigne, here in 2011, for example.
18. Model mums
Jerry Hall looked as proud as punch when her blonde bombshell of a daughter, Georgia May Jagger, picked up the Model of the Year award in 2009. Expect to see Yasmin and Amber Le Bon, Kristen and Lily McMenamy and - please oh please - Kate Moss with Lila Grace.
19. Perfect pouts
...and posing, as aptly demonstrated by Rosamund Pike, Laura Bailey and Karen Elson at the awards in 2009. Too. Much. Prettiness.
10. And LOTS of partying!
The celebrations will continue into the wee hours despite it being a school night, so expect a bleary eyed Grazia Daily on Wednesday morning. One thing's for sure: it'll be worth it!
