Beyoncé's Mrs. Carter tour is now in full swing, and she has been getting lots of headlines with her glitzy glamazon on stage wardrobe. C'mon, you must have seen that gold sequin bodysuit with the trompe l'oeil breasts by now? Beyoncé has recruited some of the most glamorous designers around to design her tour wardrobe including Julien Macdonald, Peter Dundas, Dsquared2, Ralph and Russo, Kenzo and Stuart Weitzman. Gucci is the latest brand to be added onto the list, as she wore two looks by the brand at her New York shows.
Here at Grazia Daily we have scrutinized all of Beyoncé's on stage looks to give you a detailed breakdown of what makes up her mega tour wardrobe. Our main conclusion? It features a lotta lotta sequins. Read below to discover which designers have collaborated with Queen Bey for the Mrs. Carter world tour...
To kick off her performances at Barclays Centre in New York Beyoncé wore two looks from Gucci from a series of One of a Kind outfits designed by Gucci's Frida Giannini. She wore an embroidered, ombre mini dress covered with feathers, which went from taupe to a deep red. Then she wore a white trousers with a v neck monochrome plunging top. But that's not all as Beyoncé will also wear more looks by Gucci on the Latin American leg of her tour which will kick off in September.
Beyoncé debuted a custom Kenzo bustier and short look in her show in Paris, during the first ever live performance of 'Grown Woman.' The look features Kenzo's Spring Summer 2013 print and it was designed by Humerto Leon and Carol Lim.
3. The Blonds
Beyoncé's crystal gold nipple-tastic costume she wore to kick off her Mrs Carter world tour was designed by the Blonds. The designers David and Phillipe Blond revealed they were inspired by Tamara de Lempicka's nude female paintings and wanted 'to give the illusion of being covered in crystallized honey.'
The designers revealed to Fashionista 'Phillipe hand painted the suit on Beyoncé to achieve the correct shading. The piece was then hand embroidered with approximately 30,000 Swarovski crystals that took over 600 hours to apply. It was a close collaboration with Beyoncé, Tina Knowles and her stylist, Ty Hunter, to finish what would become one of the most glamorous and provocative looks she’s ever worn.'
4. Ralph & Russo
For the opening of her tour Bey wore a white embellished crystal and pearl bodysuit with a peplum skirt by European Couture house, Ralph & Russo. Bey then wore a custom Ralph & Russo couture gold embellished bodysuit with gold crystal and bullion thread embroidery on stage in Croatia.
The designer revealed to Grazia Daily: 'Beyoncé is such a powerful and inspirational woman. We were absolutely thrilled when she approached Ralph & Russo Couture again to design outfits for her infamous ‘Mrs. Carter World Tour’. Her energetic and powerful performances make designing for her so inspiring!’
5. Emilio Pucci
Emilio Pucci's creative director Peter Dundas designed five looks for the Mrs. Carter world tour, inspired by his autumn/winter 2013-13 collection. The five Pucci looks include a black embellished bodysuit, a black leather jacket and thigh high boots, a feathered sequin dress and a purple embellished shirt. Fierce, fierce, fierce.
Peter Dundas gushed about the megastar: 'Doing Beyoncé's costumes makes a designer want to run home and sketch. She is one of the sweetest stars to work with. She knows what she wants and and what will work for her, but she respects creativity. I thought she looked incredible in the costumes, but it's difficult to mess things up with her. She's one of those girls who look even more beautiful without make-up.'
6. Stuart Weitzman
One of the most impressive things about a Beyoncé costume is how she manages to dance on skyscrapers for hours on end, so comfy heels are a must. Stuart Weitzman has designed Beyoncé's performance shoes for six years and this time around he created military boots, thigh-highs and stilettos with Swarovski crystals, and also designed the shoes for the dancers and her band.
'Creating footwear for Beyoncé's shows has been one of my most inspiring projects. She and her entire team know exactly what they need, always focusing on the fashion and the function of the styles that will be worn,' said the designer.
