Will Beyoncé wear Julien Macdonald's Autumn/Winter 2013 collection 'Viva Las Vegas' for her Mrs Carter tour?
In a month’s time Beyoncé will be hitting the road to kick off her Mrs Carter tour and we thought our interest was suitably piqued at the two promotional images that the songstress released – but NOW, well, now we’re thinking about the exciting stage costumes to come. Because Bey has apparently personally requested them from the UK’s very own Julien Macdonald. Proud? Certainly we are.

Well, who better to fulfil the glitz and sass of B’s signature performance looks than the man who isn’t afraid to celebrate such glamour on a daily basis? It’s not the first time Mr Macdonald – who brought his special kind of sparkle back to the LFW schedule after a two season hiatus focusing on his bespoke atelier clients – has worked with bootlicious Beyoncé. Back in 2011, Mrs Jay Z wore three of his designs in just one week and for her 2013 New Year’s Eve performance in Las Vegas it was Julien who created her sequinned and tassled gold playsuit. Maybe it’s down to the designer’s original desire to a pop star (“I realised early on that I cannot sing!”) but there’s something about the way he knows just where and when sequins, fringing, corsetry and embellishment need to come in to create dramatic concert costumes.
“There’s nothing better than seeing somebody you admire, or someone who embodies Julien Macdonald,” Julien explained while chatting through his autumn/winter ‘Viva Las Vegas’ collection in his West London studio a few weeks ago, “I like girls like Beyoncé or Kristen Stewart, they are amazing women. Iconic. They are part of a new generation. When she started wearing my clothes it was AMAZING!”
With 59 dates to smash, Julien’s certainly going to have his work cut out. How many changes will she do per night? Is there a theme? With Macdonald be travelling around on her tour bus? We cannot wait to see the results!
