54 Of The Best Ever Dresses On The Golden Globes Red Carpet (And 4 Of The Worst)

04 January 2014 by

Forget the January blues and brace yourselves for the glitziest time of the year: awards season! Yes, the 2014 Golden Globe Awards take place next week and that can only mean one thing: an abundance of A-listers pulling on their fanciest glad rags.

On Sunday 12th, flashbulbs will be a-popping when the likes of Cate Blanchett, Amy Adams and the lady who stole the show - and our hearts - last year, Jennifer Lawrence hit the GGs red carpet. We've already provided our predictions on who'll be picking up those golden globes, but what can we expect from the much-anticipated frockathon?

Last year, awards season was awash with stars playing it safe in nude, strapless dresses (with an obligatory fishtail kick) so we're crossing our fingers for more va-va-voom and even - gasp! - a splash of colour. At Golden Globes gone by, we've seen Angelina Jolie wowing in emerald green Versace, Cameron Diaz looking pretty in pink in 2009 while Salma Hayek, Reese Witherspoon and Scarlett Johansson have both looked super foxy thanks to red figure-huggers.

A look back in the archives also reveals a few mishaps, including THAT pink tutu courtesy of Lara Flynn Boyle. Even a few of our sartorial faves got it wrong back in the day - we're talking to you, Beyonce, Jessica Alba and Diane Kruger *clutches pearls in horror*

On the designers front, the usual suspects will no doubt be out in force - we're talking Versace, Dior, Elie Saab and Armani. You'll remember Valentino won the red carpet race in 2013, dressing the most stars during awards season but will the Italian fashion house be triumphant again? Only time will tell.

So to whet our Globes appetite, we've compiled an oh-so-glam gallery of the best dresses to ever grace its red carpet. Take a trip down memory lane via the gallery above...
