It's offically here! Awards season begins this week and while we stirred the excitement with a look back at the best (and a few of the worst) dresses to ever grace the Golden Globes red carpet, here's a taster of the 2014 action thanks to the Palm Springs Film Festival. The glitzy ceremony took place in err, Palm Springs on Saturday night and if this little shindig is a hint at what's to come, we're in for a right treat!
For starters, we applaud Sandra Bullock for stepping up her game and bringing a splash of colour to the proceedings. The actress, who wowed the industry with her tear-jerking performance in Gravity, opted for a gorgeously feminine pink and orange frock by Alex Perry teamed with nude Brian Atwood heels and a shimmering Jimmy Choo clutch. Can you believe this woman is FOURTY NINE YEARS OLD? What a hottie.
Another awards season pro, Amy Adams, also pulled out the stops, but stuck to monochrome with her Juan Carlos Obando dress covered in polka dots. Naomie Harris also did us Brits proud in a Naeem Khan frock made of white floral lace finished off with a black band around the waist.
Our new style crush didn't let us down either. Lupita Nyong'o rocked up to the red carpet wearing an Elie Saab dress and coat with Christian Louboutin shoes, a Judith Leiber clutch and Cartier jewellery. Not only did she triumph in the style stakes but the actress also picked up the Breakthrough Performance Award for her work in 12 Years a Slave. Bravo lady!

Meanwhile, Julia Roberts scooped the Spotlight Award thanks to her role in August: Osage County. She made a welcome return to the red carpet in a snazzy leopard print Gucci shift dress accessorised with a Roger Vivier clutch, a Wilfredo Rosado ring and a sweeping side-fringe. Another winner on the night was Meryl Streep who received the Icon Award for her mega successful career and was spotted taking selfies with her August: Osage County co-star Margo Martindale as the pair arrived.
Shout outs also go to Camila Alves in a Mikael D gown who arrived on the arm of hubby Matthew McConaughey and Jane Fonda's sparkling gold jacket. Click through the gallery above to see our faves from the frock-off...
