We can all agree that the '90s comeback has pretty much dominated fashion in recent years. From the clean minimalism seen on the catwalks (or via Zara, depending on your budget) to the comeback of Calvin Klein undies, there seem to be few corners of that decade yet to be mined.
One such renaissance has been the resurgence in popularity of the '90s T-shirt – basically any tee which features cult or ironic pop cultural icons of the era. This encompasses TV shows, cartoons and popular characters, meaning everyone from Homer Simpson to Winona Ryder makes the cut.

There is however something dorky about wearing a T-shirt with a beloved childhood character emblazoned across it – and while it's chic to be a geek, there has to be a kind of knowing to the look to avoid the super nerd connotations.
Teen star Bella Thorne offers an interesting blueprint here by choosing to wear an original, customised '90s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles tee with a mini skirt and Gucci heels. While Bella was not even born in the Nineties, she has made the tee work for her, adding an element of sex appeal in the mix. What’s more she wore the look to the premiere of the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie which opened at Comic-Con. You don’t get more knowing than that.

Other fans of the '90s tee include Cara Delevingne who has worn Bart Simpson on her sleeve, Rihanna who has gone for a Kate Moss tee (obviously cool) and Miley Cyrus who has worn all manner of cartoons and film tees from the decade. The key to their success has been the fact they have either added a heavy dose of sensuality to the look with mini shorts and the like or else gone for a more androgynous street vibe complete with sneakers and statement jewellery. Simples!
