Are Nipples The New Side Boob? Rihanna, Anne Hathaway & Rosie Huntington Whiteley Get Straight To The Point!

RiRi, Anne Hathaway and RHW have all recently nipped out!

Nipples. Not an obvious contender for styling trick of the season, but we only mention them because we’ve seen more of the little fellas out and about in fashion town than normal. We’re not talking topless, of course: we’re quite used to Kate Moss baring all for shoots and such.

Jen A = The '90s nipple icon

In fact, it’s probably the most clothed-nip action we’ve witnessed since the 1990s when Jennifer Aniston’s became a constant subject of discussion throughout her 10 year tenure as Rachel from 'Friends'. If Twitter had been around in ‘94, you could guarantee a handle to rival @AngelinaRightLeg would’ve appeared. We imagine it would be named @AnistonsNips with such witty 140 word snippets like “I wish Ross would get to the point (no pun intended).”

So, what’s up with the newly bra-less Rosie Huntington Whiteley, Anne Hathaway, Rihanna, Miranda Kerr and Kim Kardashian? Could they have taken notice of the Daily Mail’s latest theory that bras actually do the complete opposite of what we’d all hoped – and make your boobs sag? According to a study in France, they’re nothing more than a ‘false necessity’. Mais oui! Of course the French think that; they’re the originals at bringing sex and fashion together.

L-R: Richard Nicoll's spaghetti straps, Christopher Kane's deep-V, sheer panelling from Stella McCartney and Celine all need the no-bra code

We reckon the wave of celebrities out and about (literally) could be down to the catwalk clothes of this season. Some of spring/summer’s most significant trends call for styling sans brassiere and flashing a risqué amount of flesh. Even Dior’s extremely ladylike finale looks – which consisted of crew-neck black tees and ankle-sweeping full skirts - were a little bit cheeky because the fine gauge tops revealed a subtle hint of nip.

The first major flesh-flashing to hit the red carpet on a regular basis was the Side-Boob – everyone from Jennifer Lawrence to Michelle Dockery and Gwyneth Paltrow have SB'd - but those ultra-deep V necklines on the runways of Christopher Kane and Celine are gathering apace, too. And that's before we even consider the crop tops, spaghetti straps, sporty sheer layers and all manner of strapless frocks around. Besides, if we're to take Samantha from Sex and The City's advice, a prominent nip can only be a good thing. Watch the video below for a reminder...
