Not a happy fashion bunny: Anna Wintour gets diverted to Newcastle [Getty]
So how was your Valentine's night? It looks like Anna Wintour may have spent hers with a bunch of Geordies after her plane was diverted to Newcastle. The bonkers weather on both sides of the Atlantic meant that the US Vogue editor boarded a British Airways flight amid New York's snow storm at 8:30 yesterday evening only to be prevented from landing at London Heathrow because of the rainy-windy-sleety conditions. Oh dear.
A Virgin Atlantic flight had left NY an hour earlier carrying Wintour's colleague Hamish Bowles as well as Brit model Georgia May Jagger en route to London Fashion Week, only to also be diverted to Newcastle. Upon arriving, they were offered a coach journey back to London (coach? WE GASP) which would take six hours, aka: about the same amount of time it took them to fly from New York to London.
Unsurprisingly, an insider tells us Hamish and Georgia decided against the fashion bus option and stayed at a hotel in the heart of the Geordie city, spending what should have been a romantic evening with a bunch of rowdy Valentine's Day revellers. The fash-pack does Geordie Shore? That we'd LOVE to see.
As for Wintour, it hasn't been confirmed whether she stayed at the same hotel as Hamish et al or opted to get a car directly to London (or indeed took the coach). Last night, WWD reported that 'the displaced fashion pack were still waiting to hear whether they would be winging it back to Heathrow or making the 276-mile drive'. Cripes.
On the plus side, Wintour in Newcastle has spawned some brilliant reactions on Twitter. Take a look at some of the best below...
