Andre Leon Talley is a fashion landmark. He is the imposing figure who sits next to Anna Wintour on the front row, swathed in yards and yards of fabrics. Talley joined US Vogue as fashion news editor in 1983, and after three decades on the FROW is fashion week royalty. You might also recognise him from his ANTM days and Sex and the City cameo.
Last year the former Vogue editor has rmoved to the new edition of Russian Numero, because 'the salary was something fabulous.' But after just 12 issues he has resigned from his position at Numero Russia.
Talley said to WWD: 'I am honored to have had the exceptional opportunity to work with the publisher Alexander Fedotov, and his team, in the launch of this new fashion magazine in Russia. It was a very, very exciting project and I am so proud of my work with 12 issues.'
At the time of the move Talley opened to Oprah and said: 'The Russians offered me a whirlwind of money. I took the job because I thought it was going to be wonderful financially, and I needed a change. I needed to challenge myself.”
Is Anna LOL-ing?! The front row at Calvin Klein in 2002
Andre started out at Andy Warhol's Interview Magazine in 1975, assisting and writing profiles for just $50 a week. He then volunteered at the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where he caught the eye of the legendary Diane Vreeland. When he moved to Vogue he was regularly photographed chuckling next to Anna Wintour, being oh so fash-wan with Naomi Campbell and hanging out with, err, Puff Daddy.
We are sure Andre will find another high profile position A-SAP - what would we do without his cossack hats, empress coats and tassled shoes on the front row? See his fash pack flashback in the gallery above...
