Model and fashion expert Alexa Chung has joined the ranks of some industry insiders to judge the 2013/14 International Woolmark Prize that is being held today. Alongside Gucci’s Creative Director Frida Giannini, the Editor-in-Chief of Vogue Italia, Franca Sozzani and fast-tongued Editor-at-Large of Style.com, Tim Blanks - Alexa will choose one contestant from five designers (wittled down from 48, from more than 20 countries) to win AU$100,000 and the opportunity to be stocked in some of the world’s most serious department stores from Harvey Nichols to Saks Fifth Avenue and Colette. This is serious stuff...
Now it’s no surprise that firm FROW-er The Chung has been deemed fully qualified to make this decision but here are 5 reasons why we know she’ll be a great judge:
1. The Girl Knows Style
Aside from her own endlessly papped looks and various fashion credentials (the Mulberry 'Alexa' being just one), Chung has written her own style tome too.

Her latest book IT was full of style musings, moodboardings and some choice life tips: “Boys say they don't mind how you get your hair done. But then they leave you for someone with really great standard girl hair and the next thing you know you're alone with a masculine crop crying into your granola.” Genius. She’s also one of Vogue’s Contributing Fashion Editors.
2. She Has Major Campaign Experience
From fabulous French brand Maje to the sporty Supergas and Pepe jeans, Alexa has nailed her insouciant Jane Birkin-esque look and shaggy undone-done hair in many a fashion campaign.

3. Her Designs and Collaborations Sell Like Hot-Cakes
The multi-talented muse turns her hand to many fashion tricks. Her range for major U.S. denim brand Madewell (sister to our beloved J.Crew) sold out in mere moments whilst her collaboration with make-up range Eyeko made the most of her ubiquitous inky-winged eyes. This girl knows a good selling point when she sees one.

4. She Has Some Stylish Friends

Forever FROW-ing, Alexa Chung is part of a real fashion posse, both in London and New York. She usually joins buddies Peaches and Pixie Geldof, Kelly Osbourne and Nick Grimshaw on the front row of pal Henry Holland’s House of Holland show every season without fail (but was notably absent this time around) and is a regular face on the New York fashion scene.
5. She’s Got Sharp Wit
She’ll be able to hold her own in a sartorial showdown with Tim Blanks. Let’s cast our minds back to, arguably, Alexa’s most brilliant moments: her vintage days on C4’s Popworld. The Chung was outrageous, hilarious and never self-conscious – exactly what the panel will need in those long moments of deliberation.
