Fifteen years on from Sex and the City Carrie Bradshaw is still the champion of the high heel - the girl made Manolo Blahnik a household name and was proposed to with a blue five inch stiletto. She was literally the woman that lived in her shoes - putting her money in Blahnik rather than property.
Yesterday marked fifteen years since Carrie and her shoe collection hit our TV screens, and to mark the occasion Sarah Jessica Parker announced that she is launching her very own shoe line, which will be called SJP.
SJP has called upon her shoe godfather Monolo Blahnik, as she is teaming up with the longtime CEO of the label George Malkemus to create a line which will be sold exclusively in Nordstrom early next year. Sarah Jessica Parker said to US Vogue 'Because I got to play that role, I wore a lot of shoes, and by default I learned an enormous amount. It's hard to - no pun intended - walk away from that.' It's also clearly hard to walk away from Carrie Bradshaw's love of word play.
Nordstrom EVP of the shoe division, Scott Meden, said to Grazia Daily about the collab: 'We are thrilled to be partnering with Sarah Jessica Parker on the exclusive launch of SJP. Based on her obvious personal connection to footwear, as a fashion icon in her own right and through her leading role with Sex In The City, it seems like a natural progression that she is now turning her hand to design.' He added 'Her collection, made in Italy, offers women on-trend, beautifully crafted footwear at an attainable price point.' My oh my this is gonna be good.
'In a silly way, I think it's what people have expected of me most because of Carrie Bradshaw,' Sarah Jessica said to US Vogue. Well yes, we can't quite believe this hasn't happened already. If SATC started in 2013 it would have had it's own line of cupcakes, perfume and stilettos before you could say Mr Big.
So we couldn't help but wonder, what would this SJP shoe line look like? Well we know that she is turning to old school labels like Charles Jourdan and Maud Frizon for shoe-spiration and is hoping to create 'something different'. We're thinking it will be an elegant stiletto rather than clumpy clogs and ankle socks.
SJP said of the shoes: 'We’re putting new colors together that people don’t typically do, just beautiful combinations that you wish existed in your closet. And in terms of bags, thinking about that period of the seventies into the eighties, what those women were carrying, taking away the bells and the whistles and hardware and really making it about the bag.'
So will these shoes and bags stop us from paying rent à la Carrie Bradshaw? Well the heels and flats are priced between £130 and £190 and bags are going to be about £450.
