British Fashion Awards 2013: Burberry Wins Brand Of The Year And Christopher Bailey Wins Menswear Designer of the Year

It wouldn't have been hard to predict that Burberry would scoop the award for Designer Brand of the Year at tonight's British Fashion awards. The iconic British label has had a remarkable 2013 with both their womenswear and menswear collections. 

Christopher Bailey was presented the award by one of his close friends and Burbs campaign stars - actress Sienna Miller. Later in the night Burberry's Christopher Bailey went on to win the Menswear Designer of the Year award.

The Spring Summer 2014 womanswear collection saw a return to a very girly glamour, featuring lace materials and fondant shades mixed with laser cut pencil skirts and easy knits, offering a much softer look than we'd seen in more recent shows. Another highlight was Queen Cara Delevingne taking to the catwalk whilst her pals Harry Styles and Alexa Chung cheered her on.

This also marked the year that the brand held their first Menswear show in London after over ten years in Milan. The collection featured bright colours –blues, reds and yellows and monochromes. Burberry found their male champion in One Direction's Harry Styles who showed a particular penchant for their heart print shirt earlier in the year.

The brand, always a favourite of the British fashion elite has had campaigns this year featuring Sienna Miller and her boyfriend Tom Sturridge, as well as Cara, Model of the Year Edie Campbell and, of course, the fashion debut of Romeo Beckham.

The designer who has been at Burberry since 2001 and been their Chief Creative Officer for the past six years was named the label's CEO in October. Known for being the man behind the brand's creative marketing, store design and endless digital innovation, Bailey's designs are also the core of the Burberry brand in the 21st century.

His Spring/Summer 2014 collection drew inspiration from David Hockney and Alan Bennet celebrating the more eccentric side of  British style. The success of the collection restablished Burberry's menswear base in London after a 10 year absence.

This double win for Burberry shows that the brand is still at the forefront of British fashion and cements Christopher Bailey's place as one of the leading talents in British fashion.
