Donatella with Mariah Carey
Who doesn’t love a great fashion movie? From The September Issue to the Devil Wears Prada, that incredible behind the scenes story can’t be beaten. About to be added to our stack of fashion film faves is House of Versace, the upcoming Donatella Versace biopic starring Gina Gershon. Set to debut in the U.S. on October 5th, the plot follows the aftermath of Gianni Versace’s murder in ‘97 and his sister’s struggle as she took the helm of the family business. Gershon of Killer Joe, Face/Off and P.S. I Love You fame will play the peroxide fashion queen alongside Enrico Colantoni (from the upcoming film of TV show Veronica Mars) as Gianni and the glorious Raquel Welch as their Aunt Lucia.
As Donatella continues to be one of the industry’s most captivating sirens – who isn’t obsessed with her gravity defying body, luminous hair, miraculous tan, A-list fan-base and those pre-‘Angelina-slit’ dresses? - we are extremely excited about the glitz, glamour and the gilt-edged drama of this Italiana-rama. Here are the 5 things we just can’t wait for...
1. Gina Gershon will play a fierce Donatella
Gina G is famous in Hollywood for her intense character acting, spanning movies like the recent and horrific Killer Joe (in this pic below). She’s also notched up credits on various TV shows and cartoons from Curb Your Enthusiasm to Family Guy and American Dad. Her sensual Sophia Loren-like looks make her perfect for this role.

2. The amazing costumes
Donatella’s dresses take us back to THAT J-Lo Golden Globe floorsweeper and just about a million others. The costume design is going to be fabulous.

3. Hair and makeup gems
Synonymous with the name Versace is Donatella’s blonde mane; as extreme as it looks now, we actually can’t wait to see its earlier incarnations. Always magnificent - her hair and make-up are likely to be the secret stars of the movie.

4. AMAZING backdrops and interior design inspiration
Now for sale, and once the backdrop to his decadent lifestyle, Gianni’s house is famously glam. We are hoping to see some of the fashion house’s golden homewares throughout the film.
Some palatial inspiration for the set designers from the Versace estates
Donatella has befriended many an A-Lister throughout her high profile life. We look forward to some serious name dropping and 70s/80s flashbacks – or even, cameos! Although highly unlikely we’d love to see any of the following…
