Kate Moss Week: Celebrating The Model's Most Iconic Catwalk Moments

08 January 2014 by

That's right, Kate Moss is turning 40 this month! When Kate was spotted with her dad at JFK airport at the tender age of 14, nobody could have predicted that, 25 years later, she would be the most enduring model of our age. And in an industry not renowned for longevity, the fact that Kate's star is still shining brightly is something worth celebrating. So, in the new issue of Grazia, we have dedicated no fewer than 15 pages to Kate's 40th birthday, with iconic pictures from throughout her stellar career and tributes from some of the industry's biggest names. Pick up your issue now to see every Mossy morsel but in the meantime, let's take a look back at her most best moments on the catwalk..

Kate Moss made her catwalk debut in Paris when she was just 15, opening for John Galliano. The designer was searching for girls to showase his bias-cut dresses and waify Katy aced the look. Since her first trip down the runway, Kate has stomped down the runway across the globe for everyone from Yves Saint Laurent to Louis Vuitton.

Her catwalk takeover was surprising because of her below-model-average 5ft 7 in height and waif-like figure. But Mossy 'the anti-super' fast-tracked into the big league and was soon walking alongside Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Campbell et all. Kate grabbed headlines with her waif-like frame and gimicks on the catwalk - remember when she sipped on Vittel at the end of the runway or ate a Magnum while walking topless in Vivienne Westwood?

Memorable Mossy Mcqueen moments include when in 2004 at a McQueen charity auction she danced rather vigorously in a sheer navy dress covered in his iconic skull print. Then after her drugs scandal the following year McQueen put her back on the catwalk, as a filmed hologram. Kate’s ghostly apparition materialised in a glass pyramid, floating and swirling in slow motion in an extravagantly ruffled gown. Lee then took his bow at the end of the show in a T shirt emblazoned with the slogan “We Love You, Kate!” It is arguably the most iconic catwalk moment of all time.

Mossy retired from the runway in 2004, but when she does takes a rare trip down the catwalk she makes sure it's a good'un. Louis Vuitton is her only fashion week fixture as in March 2011 she closed the LV show by stomping in a black body and bondage boots while puffing on a fag. In October 2011 she went for a spin on the LV horse carousel in a white feathered minidress. She returned to the catwalk this year, after a two year break, to walk in Louis Vuitton's Autumn Winter 2013 in a black cropped wig and a sheer floral dress.

Who could also forget when Moss took the gold, stomping her way across the Olympics stadium with the supermodel in the Closing ceremony. Mossy took centre stage in a mermaid-like Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen gown encrusted in gold and silver paillettes. It was genius.

When Grazia Daily caught up with Kate backstage at Mulberry last season we asked her if she'd ever consider returning to the catwalk. The London-based model told us exclusively, 'Well, I did Louis Vuitton... I don’t think I'll do it again, but I don’t know... I mean, I never say never. It’s fun to do one occasionally. It’s not like I would want to do London-Milan-Paris like I used to, but it’s fun to do it occasionally.' Oh please Mossy, do it again.
