Consider this past weekend's Golden Globes as the sartorial round one of The Champions League of Hollywood Red Carpet Dressing. It is but a mere warm up for the fashion pros, an indication of things to come at the big one: The Oscars. It's a time when, although all eyes are on the prize starlets, our favourite fantasy women can experiment, start to iron out some of those satin creases and get to grips with their signature spotlight looks for the awards season ahead.
Whilst the boo-boos of years past may no longer occur as often within this now ultra-planned and relatively safe fashion zone, there will forever be frocks that rock... the boat, that is. Demi-debates have been shuddering through the web - nothing as fully fledged as the Anne Hathaway nipple gate of 2013 - but intriguing none the less. Here are some questions that need answering.
1. Was Jennifer Lawrence channelling the little mermaid?
Considering J-Law hadn't even been born when Ariel, Sebastian the crab and co. changed the life of many a young girl in 1989, we reckon the inspiration for her grosgrain ribbon holstered bandeau gown from Dior will be more Grecian than, erm, crustacean. In motion this was a stunning, modern choice - many static snaps perhaps didn't do the piece justice. Derivative inspo aside, we're still going to let out a little LOL for the copycat memes online.

2. Should Emma Watson have worn a proper dress?
Hell no! She's a young Brit girl - give her some cred, people. Emma Watson has never really ventured far into the danger zone, so, could it be possible that fully shaking off her Harry Potter past and bagging herself a (hot) beardy new beau have created a super-confident EW 2.0? She makes this backless Dior dress-over-trousers combination look comfortable in the home of fishtails and tulle. Can we see a theme here? Are Dior's red carpet offerings the most fashion forward of them all?

3. Did Sandra Bullock let us down?
According to some critics Sandy's Prabal Gurung frock was a disappointment. Unflattering, apparently. And her hair was messy too. Gah! Well, we disagree. This was one of the most adventurous gowns of the night - without being silly - and it pushed our favourite funny lady into less obvious territory. Really, how many super-fitted strapless number can one want to see?

4. Did Lena Dunham wear Grazia yellow on purpose?
Probs. Holler Lena, we love you.

5. Is the shirt the new costume necklace?
We ruddy hope not. The wondrous Julia Roberts ruined a perfectly good black dress with a business button-up underneath. We speculate that the actress may have experienced a very common occurrence of regular folk before a big event: bingo wing meltdown. Joke. But such a thought makes us love her even more. So whatever Pretty Woman, keep the shirt on if it makes you feel happy.
