Since David's recent retirement from football, the couple are entering a new phase of their lives, last week charming China in a joint Beckham venture. 1997-2000: The Posh ‘n’ Becks era
When Britain’s hottest footballer hooked up with pop’s poutiest Spice Girl back in 1997, it was love at first sight. After a short courtship, a wedding at an Irish Castle complete with gold thrones cemented the match made in media heaven. Style-wise, baseball caps and matching leather ruled, with David making a brief – and much derided - foray into sarongs.
2001-2002: Golden Balls and Golden Couple
With their burgeoning family, the Beckhams began their quest for global domination. There were early signs of Victoria’s fashion aspirations, David too, branded as the ‘ultimate metrosexual’, who was now captain of the English football team and fronting endless brands from Pepsi to Marks & Spencer.
2003-2006: The Cavalli Years
With a move to Spain following David’s signing to Real Madrid, Mr and Mrs B threw themselves into the world of Euro glam. From Cannes to World Cup Wag-mania, their look became glitzier than ever. Deep tans, gowns by Roberto Cavalli and blonde highlights were the order of the day.
2007-2012: Hello Hollywood!
Another transfer, this time to LA Galaxy, took the famiglia Beckham to an Italian villa in Beverly Hills. The move stateside came complete with a high-end shift in gear for VB who became the face of Marc Jacobs in 2008 and in the same year launched her eponymous collection. With their A-list friends and fashion forward look, DBVB became one of the world’s most famous duos.
After David announced his retirement earlier this year, the Beckhams have decided to settle back in Blighty. Tweeting intimate and loving pictures of each other and working together on the Beckham brand, their 16 year partnership is strong than ever. Happy Anniversary David & Victoria!
