Victoria Beckham by Juergen Teller [T Magazine]
'Victoria Beckham, Working Girl' is the title of the New York Time's T Magazine profile on one of the fashion world's most photographed women. She may have started life as a fifth of a girl band, but five years ago VB struck out on her own and launched her own collection with an intimate presentation at New York Fashion Week. Since then she's quashed the critics, winning designer brand of the year at the British Fashion Awards in 2011 and wowing editors and customers alike by producing consistently polished and wearable pieces that she and her loyal A-list following, from Naomi Watts to Eva Longoria, regularly showcase on the red carpet and promotional trail.
Her namesake brand may be a well-oiled machine, but more recently Victoria has let her guard down, sharing personal pics on Instagram and now, allowing T Magazine free reign in her London headquarters.
Here's what we've learnt from the interview...
1. Her office is a tip
While the interviewer describes the interior of the Beckham home, including "Damien Hirst pictures", "monochrome walls" and "sumptuous gray sofas", the images taken of the designer by photographer Juergen Teller inside her Battersea HQ tell a very different story. Fabric and sketches are strewn across the carpet, cans of Coke and Pepsi are littered across a coffee table and VB is flopped on the floor in the middle of all the chaos. Demonstrating her sense of humour, she vetoed the idea of featuring a plate of grapes in the shot joking, “We don’t want anyone to know I eat. Why ruin that?”
2. She wants more, more, more
Not content with two successful clothing lines, Victoria has her heart set on total fashion world domination. She also wants to grow her customer base, explaining, “I want to reach as many women throughout the world as I can. There are more categories that I want to enter into. I have five categories at the moment. But at some point I would love to do shoes, I would love to do fragrance, I would love to do makeup, I would like to do underwear. There are so many things I want to do.”
3. America feels like her natural home
The Beckham clan may be settled in the UK for now, but Victoria is very honest about her love for the US: “I am very career minded, and I think my personality is more suited to America. I am a working mum.”
4. She doesn't have a personal chef (all the time)
Now you're wondering how she does it - run a fashion empire and take care of a family of four children. Well Victoria does admit to having a little help in the kitchen department, but not all the time. She said: “Chris comes in a couple of days a week and might make a giant lasagna so I can put it in the freezer and then do it myself.”
5. David is a whiz in the kitchen
Yes, that's right. Not only does he have a smile that literally makes us buckle over like baby fawns, but THE DAVID BECKHAM is a wannabe chef too. Perhaps its all the time he spends with Gordon Ramsay, but Victoria revealed, “David does the cooking... he’s really good.” It turns out while DB was playing for LA Galaxy he had a bit of time on his hands “So he decided to go to culinary school."

6. She hasn't turned into one of those LA mothers
Victoria may love the Califonia lifestyle, but her approach to raising her kids is far from the Hollywood norm. She said, “We have what I consider to be normal birthday parties. I’ve been to parties in L.A. that are mind-blowing. I mean, quite literally mind-blowing. People get cellphones in the party bag, that sort of thing. Fabulous, fabulous parties. Ours aren’t like that. They are normal kids’ parties. We’ll have a bouncy castle, a face painter.”
7. She prefers to go au naturel
While she's widely considered controlling of her public image, VB isn't keen on looking overdone. She said, “Normally in a fashion shoot you’d be plastered in makeup, in amazing clothes. I find it embarrassing when you don’t look like yourself, when you’ve had tons of retouching.”
8. There's a reason why she doesn't smile!
Every time the designer flashes her pearly whites we all clap our hands in glee. Despite having a beautiful grin, it's a rare occurance and here's why: “When you’re in a position to be paparazzi-ed just walking down the street, you’d look a little daft if you were smiling all the time.”
9. She's comfortable showing her age
Despite being less than a year away from the big 4-0, Victoria isn't ashamed of her years: “I don’t want to be made to look like I’m 25,” she said. “I’m 39. I don’t have any issues with my age.”
10. Brand Beckham is a thing
It's a term frequently referred to in the media, but it's something the Victoria herself is happy to talk about too: “You know, we don’t look at it as a big brand. It is, but it happened very, very naturally. It seems that now everybody wants to make a brand; everybody wants to build a brand. Ours happened very organically. The most important thing is each other and the children.”
