10 Things We're Looking Forward To During London Fashion Week: From Henry Holland's FROW To Waterproofing Our Wardrobes
GALLERY >> Here's why we're looking forward to London Fashion Week...
New York, schmew schmork. It’s all about London Fashion Week from the end of this week until forever – or at least next Tuesday anyway. We’re suitably excited for our capital’s forthcoming style fest even if we aren’t enthused by the idea of street-chicing it in torrential rain – so here’s what we’re most looking forward to…
1. DISCOVERING NEW TALENT
We’re the world-anointed hub of all things well cool and well new, so there will be fresh fashion names a-plenty as per usual this LFW. Some young – but already promising – designers (like Ashley Williams, Ryan Lo and J JS Lee) will no doubt continue their growth spurt. With the Central St Martins show, Fashion East and Vauxhall Fashion Scout we’ll be researching for months to come.
2. THE HOUSE OF HOLLAND FROW
This two metre stretch has become something of fashion legend. It’s where the hip crowd gather to giggle, selfie and generally make normal folk feel utterly boring/lame/like the loser at secondary school. Addictive viewing.
3. WEARING AN ANORAK. YES, REALLY.
You think we’re pulling your leg? Well, the weather forecast doesn’t look good at all, it’s grim, but anoraks are actually en vogue this season. Just speak to Thomas Tait or blogger Peony Lim for starters – they’re both championing the new sports-luxe super-piece.
4. ANYA HINDMARCH'S AWESOME SETS
This accessories designer has taken us on many a wild adventure from the comfort of central London. Following a giant dominos set-up and a peek inside a charming Charlie Chocolate-like factory line, this season’s invite hints towards a more futuristic concept. We recently received a mini LED pager-style contraption, inviting us to the Counter Culture show…
5. BURBERRY'S A-LIST CROWD'N'CATWALK
Who will be flown over from L.A. or New York this time? Will Christopher Bailey make it rain or snow indoors again? Will all of the models finish the runway in a sparkling line-up of matchy matchy macs? Questions, questions.
6. CHRISTOPHER KANE'S LATEST CREATIONS
He may never mean to be, but this man is a trend machine. What funkyoffish combination will he splice together next? This season’s super-chic biology lesson in flora has enormously influenced many – and we're certain we'll spend time spotting X Kane signature prints, embroideries or motifs from a mile off. It's a game we like playing.
7. CARA DELEVINGNE COMES TO TOWN
Cara who you say? Jokes. It’s only Grazia’s favourite person of LFW for bloomin’ sake. She’ll no doubt rule the catwalks and the parties alike, and we look forward to her instagram feed with friendlings like fellow model Jourdan Dunn and sister Poppy.
8. RIDING WITH OUR MERC CREW
Neil, Janet and Martin and their fancy Mercedes Benz GLAs return once more to get us from A to chaotic B with as little fuss and as much chocolate as possible. They have to deal with our endless chatter of catwalk reviews and shoe-ache, so thanks guys for putting yourselves through it again!
9. THE SNACKS
We don't yet know who the official snack purveyors shall be for this season’s shows, but if it’s at all related to the previous offerings of Popchips or Propercorn then we’ll be very happy. Something sweet would also be lovely around 4pm each day, thanks.
10. MADCAP STREET STYLING
All kinds of crazy will go on at Somerset House, with young fashion adventurers taking on the most directional concepts and making them a reality. There will be people taking pictures of people taking pictures of people taking pictures… and all because someone’s turned up as a bear. We predict a riot…
