William and Kate continued with their royal tour duties today following the sudden death of Mark Shand, the brother of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall. William and Kate released a brief statement about this tragic news: “‘The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were saddened to learn this morning of the tragic death of Mark Shand. Their thoughts are with the Duchess of Cornwall and her family at this time.”
The Royal Tour is coming to a close as they leave Australia tomorrow, and on one of the final stops Wills and Kate visited Canberra. They started the day planting a tree (once again) at the National Arboretum and then William addressed Parliament House. Kate wore a custom green coat dress for the second time on the trip, this time by Catherine Walker.
Kate's emerald green dress features a high neck with a zip at the front, a belted waist and a full A line skirt (which looked most impresisve when she crouched down to talk to her little admirers). Kate wore Catherine Walker on the start of her tour, when she touched down in New Zealand in a red dress with military buttons down the front. As for the rest, Kate wore her sledge nude shoes by L.K. Bennett, diamond earrings and her engagement ring.
In his speech in front of 600 people at Parliament House Prince William talked about the highlights of their trip and also made (another) Prince George joke as he said: 'We go away with wonderful memories and George goes away with a cuddly wombat, which he has taken to chewing so lovingly.' The Duke and Duchess then signed a visitors' book - not with your average biro - but with a pen which which originally belonged to the queen.
Australia's prime minster Tony Abbott praised the couple as he said Wills had 'the decency and sense of duty of his father and the compassion of his mother,' while he commented on Kate's 'grace and warmth.'
The couple then went on to the National Portrait Gallery and this evening the couple will attend a reception, the most formal engagement of the tour. Of course we'll be here on Kate Watch to let you know if it's a Jenny Packham or an Alexander McQueen...
