Stella McCartney said that her show at the Paris Opera this morning was 'a true celebration of summer' and it certainly seemed that way. Hers is always among the breeziest offerings of the Paris season and this time's gauzy sporty checked and striped sheath dresses in sunny shades of red and green, layered sunray pleated separates in equally vibrant hues and, of course, signature relaxed tailoring - in black and dusty rose - and tuxedo dressing was as easy on the eye as ever.

The women in this show were especially gorgeous, all dewy skin and studiously dishevelled hair - we could all be forgiven for wanting to be them. Their Riviera sandals had flat rubber soles, their clogs were only marginally elevated and their wicker bags had not a hard edge in sight.

There was nothing challenging to be seen here but then that isn't what this designer strives for. Instead, she creates a straightforward, glamorous and modern wardrobe for women who like fashion but would rather not wear that on their sleeve. And she does it very well.
