A smart American girl in France: what kind of wardrobe would she need for a sophisticated vacation? Ralph Lauren should be her first – and perhaps only - stop for spring/summer 2016.

Presented to the kind of women who wear Mr Lauren’s effortless clothes so well – from his loyal clientele through to the starry likes of Julianne Moore – the designer set sail for a European summer. Classic sportswear staples for breezy days spent on the Riviera were particularly strong – from stunning but simple swimwear through to nautical blazers, sweeping wide-leg trousers and natty shoulder-knotted jumpers. There was of course evening attire as well: drop dead gorgeous gowns in ultra-vibrant red would be the ticket for a black tie event of a balmy evening, whilst softer, draped and billowing ticker-striped cotton dresses would do nicely for a more casual affair.

The concise seaside colour scheme meant that however the holidaying woman in mind should pack – capsule or all-but-the-kitchen-sink – everything would hold together nicely.

We don’t know where Ralph and his team spend sun-drenched days in France, but we’d certainly like to join them some time… and we’ll take dibs on wearing the colour-blocked trousers first.
