The Pirelli calendar is always the textbook definition of 'very sexy,' with nearly-naked models in NSFW latex and pin-up costumes. But they have announced that they are heading in a new direction for 2016, celebrating women for their accomplishments.

Instead of just models, the lineup includes Tavi Gevinson, Amy Schumer, Yoko Ono, Fran Lebowitz, Serena Williams and Patti Smith. There is just one model in the lineup, Natalia Vodianova.

These portraits will be shot by Annie Leibovitz, who said of the new direction: "I started to think about the roles that women play, women who have achieved something. I wanted to make a classic set of portraits. I thought that the women should look strong but natural, and I decided to keep it a very simple exercise of shooting in the studio. This calendar is so completely different. It is a departure. The idea was not to have any pretence in these pictures and be very straightforward."

The Pirelli Calendar - or the Cal as it's sometimes known - was launched in 1964. Last year they cast their first plus-sized model, Candice Huffine.

We'll have to wait until November 30 to see the images.
