Around The World With Jonathan Saunders At London Fashion Week

With a lightness of touch and sensuality running through every drape of bias cut silk or flash of salmon pink against ruby red, Jonathan Saunders' outlook for spring/summer 2016 has feel-me, purchase-me practically stitched into the seams. Watching the fashion buyers from across the FROW we're certain they had their order books ready to jump the starting line.

Via a kaladaescopic power-pastel filter, Jonathan's girls gathered their influences from cultures and dress codes the globe over: paisley on acid from India, modernised kimono shapes from Japan, tile prints from the Middle East switched up into sweeter shades... In less talented hands that kind of splicing and dicing of inspiration, hues, pattern and texture could look derivative, but Jonathan's sensitive approach and excellent eye for unusual colour arrangements of was nothing short of pure loveliness. A sartorial adventure around the world in five minutes - worth waking up for on a Sunday.

Each far flung element was given a solid Saunders-over and we fell particularly in lust for the line up of dresses: floating silks and chiffon were cut diagonally into spaghetti strap slips, other more demure dresses featured asymmetric wraps and hemlines, plus the kind of sleeves that happily billow in motion. Outside of the frock spectrum this was an artsy take on pajama dressing - outsize shirts tucked carefully in and out of palazzo pants, with the definitively un-boudoir addition of boxier outerwear. Even tomboys won't be able to resist the romance next spring will bring.
