Shopping usually features in my weekend at some point and I can spend hours browsing the top floor in Selfridges, the shoe and bag hall especially. Even if i'm not buying I can still do a little window shopping! The new Jimmy Choo collections are just in, the sparkled sandals and clutches are perfect for the festive season. The colours in the Jimmy Choo Cruise collection are gorgeous; the patent mustard pair of heels have my name on them.

Pub Du Vin

During a day out in the city you need to re-fuel and a stop off in the very cosy Pub Du Vin is a good choice. I'm a huge fan of proper burgers and theirs goes down a treat complete with their skin on skinny fries. The pub is part of Hotel Du Vin if you want something a little more refined but the novelty of ale served in silver tankards and leather chairs in the Pub is perfect to rest your feet for a few hours.

Harvey Nichols

Everyone should take the time out for a little self-indulgence throughout the day and heading over to The Mailbox to Harvey Nichols is definitely a little treat. The Creme De La Mer team offer luxurious facials for only £75 and you will walk away with the most glowing healthy skin. As well as that you can then redeem the £25 for any of their products - perfect for building a nice little skincare collection as well as one of the best facials in the city.

The Cube

For the best view of Birmingham head over to the Cube for champagne and cocktails in the sky. The Laurent Perrier bar is a glass walled room jutting out on the 27th floor, peering down is not for the faint hearted. You can see miles over to the towns surrounding the city and in the warmer weather you can do this from the outdoor terrace. It impresses everyone I've taken there!

Frankfurt Christmas Market

We know that Christmas is coming when the famous Frankfurt Christmas Market arrives in the city, set in Victoria Square running all the way down New Street to the entrance of the Bullring. Every year for six weeks you can browse the wooden chalets selling everything from reindeer rugs to handmade beautiful ornaments. No visit is complete with sampling the mulled gluhwein, hot cider and trying to eat a foot long bratwurst!

The canal

To escape the hustle and bustle of the city centre you can take a walk, cycle or barge ride along the canals running through Birmingham out towards the countryside. Birmingham has more canals than Venice which surprises a lot of people. It's a great way to explore the city too as many of the towpaths will lead you right into the popular areas such as the Mailbox, Brindlay Place and NIA. The canals are scattered with pubs along the routes, always a bonus!
