Kristen Stewart On Why All Actresses Should Wear Trainers On The Red Carpet

13 November 2012 by

Kristen Stewart has long been a trainer devotee. We've previously reported how the Twilight actress has repeatedly been caught swapping her swanky stilettos for a pair of comfortable old Converse half way down the red carpet. Only now it turns out K-Stew's sneaky sneakers aren't worn in order to enhance her carefree, beatnik image but instead they’re a necessary tool to enable the star to connect with fans of the film franchise.

The 22-year-old told The Sunday Times Style magazine "I just so wholeheartedly disagree with people who don't like what I wear" before offering up a stern word of warning to those stars who are "more concerned about looking pretty in your heels, and so you're walking slowly down the line. Put a pair of sneakers on." It's true; we can imagine signing autographs for hours in gravity defying heels would not be fun. Then of course there's the potential risk of falling over in front of the paps.

High profile candidates who could do with taking note include Amanda Seyfried, who took a rather nasty tumble at the Vanity Fair Oscars after party last year and Mel B who recently tweeted a picture of her bruised face alongside the caption 'Running in 7 inch Louboutins no good!!' Looks like Scary Spice could do with following band mate Victoria Beckham's lead by snapping up a pair of Manolo Blahnik Monk shoes.

We can’t see many A-listers ditching the platforms any time soon but among the current generation of young pop stars trainers are increasingly popular. Cher Lloyd and Carly Rae Jepsen clearly see the benefit of performing in flats, so maybe K-Stew won’t be on her own in the Footlocker queue after all.
