Earlier this week, shocking news reached us that French designer Nicolas Ghesquière is leaving Balenciaga. The fashion legend has spent fifteen years with the luxury brand and has completely reinvented it since founder Cristóbal Balenciaga died in 1972.
As the fashion world has taken a sharp intake of breath, as well as frantic speculating for an appropriate successor, Fashionista have uncovered a clever Tumblr that's patiently scrolled through endless catwalk collections in homage to Ghesquière. Why? To demonstrate the huge influence he's had on other fashion houses’ collections. Genius!
Nicolas has always been massively ahead of the curve in terms of trend setting. Let’s be honest, who thought in 2007 when Balenciaga produced metallic suits that five years later every fashion bunny worth their sartorial salt would own one? That same year, the designer took florals in a refreshingly new direction, showing them in a new light as sexy and futuristic, something many other designers only began to explore in the last few seasons. Without a doubt, he's influenced fellow French frock-makers at Celine and Carven.
