When an entire audience got a peek at M.I.A's desktop as it was inadvertently projected onto a ginormous screen, folders named 'Versace Prints,' 'Bootleg Versace,' and 'Versace Outlines' were revealed. How curious... And there could only be one explanation: the singer is collaborating with Donatella! Yup, despite those CONvincing tweets about Lana Del Rey, it's actually another super-stylish pop star who's been in cahoots with the mega brand.
It was during a lecture at the modern art museum P.S.1 on Sunday that the VERY organised folders were revealed and, according to Spin, the singer then confirmed she is indeed working with Versace. Although the nature of the project is not known (yet), her folder titles suggest she's turned her hand to designing. If that's the case, we're in for a right treat — especially if her snazzy ensemble at the Versace couture show, inspired by the brand's 1992 collection, is anything to go by.
Because let's not forget M.I.A studied at the esteemed Central Saint Martins College so already has designer credentials. What's more, she was the roommate of Luella Bartley, modelled for Marc by Marc Jacobs in 2008 and her mother works as a seamstress in London. You might also recall she released a limited-edition Okley Run line that was sold during New York Fashion Week in 2008, which featured Mexican and Afrika line jackets and leggings as well as Islamic-inspired prints and hoodies covered in water melons. Totes faboosh.
But whether modelling in a Versace campaign or taking a more creative role, we reckon M.I.A's personal style — eccentric combinations of bold prints and bright colours — would work brilliantly with Donatella's sassy-verging-on-garish creations. Don't you?
