Carven x Petit Bateau
Until Givenchy-trained designer Guillaume Henry took the reins at Parisian brand Carven in 2009 as creative director, no one had really ever heard of the brand, despite the fact that it was founded way way back in the forties. In fact, no one had really heard of Guillaume either, but his brilliantly unique take on an old French label has put him smack bang into the fashion spotlight. Along with Emma Stone, Victoria Beckham, Rihanna, Beyonce, Alexa Chung and Blake Lively, fashion editors have fallen hard for his new proportions and coolly feminine ideas: shrunken tailoring, girly skirt suits, pretty prints, repeatedly sold-out bow-backed slingbacks (in collaboration with French footwear designer Robert Clergerie) and preppy collared shirts are just some of our favourites.
While the mainline’s prices are reasonable for designer garb (which would explain an abundance of the stuff on the streets of fashion week), we’re excited today to see the launch of a collection with the cornerstone of Parisian style staples, Petit Bateau, starting at just over £40. Le petit range of jersey dresses with contrast collars, thigh-slit minis and sporty polo shirts is dropping in store and online in just a handful of places, one being Farfetch.com via one of their Belgian boutiques SMETS, right now. Obviously we’re all about the ‘plus simple’ womenswear, but kids and guys can get involved, too!
