Fashion Blogger Navaz Batliwalla Of Disneyrollergirl Shares Her Fashion Rules

30 October 2012 by

For the third season running eBay has teamed up with a group of top fashion bloggers to curate and model its new collection. This time round the Autumn/ Winter 2012 range was styled by super blogger Navaz Batliwalla from Disneyrollergirl who edited 60 pieces from retailers including Very, House of Fraser and Karen Millen. Check out our Q&A with Navaz to find out more about her blog, style inspiration and winter fashion rules...

Grazia Daily: How long have you been blogging?

Navaz: Five years.

Grazia Daily: What made you decide to start your blog?

Navaz: I was reading and loving blogs like the Sartorialist and Style Bubble and maybe a tiny bit creatively stifled in my job on a magazine. Blogging was a good way to share the industry insider information I was privy to, to a wider audience and to give a unique and honest perspective of the industry.

Grazia Daily: What’s been your highlight so far?

Navaz: Being taken to Paris to see inside the Hermes handbag atelier was amazing, a real treat as no-one usually gets such close access.

Grazia Daily: What are your favourite Winter 2012 trends?

Navaz: I'm all about school uniform colours like grey, navy, bottle green and maroon so it's good to see more of those around. I'm also excited about all the menswear influences like double breasted coats and trouser suits. The rise in 'fast beauty' is also really interesting and making me a bit more playful with makeup - I love all the witchy green nail colours around at the moment.

Grazia Daily: Do you have any winter fashion rules?

Navaz: Buy a coat you absolutely love as it's the thing people see first and you'll wear it loads. I'm also very fussy about having the right bag with the right coat - I hate to see a smart bag with a casual coat unless it's done on purpose.

Grazia Daily: Where do you get your style inspiration?

Navaz: A lot of times it's nostalgia, things I used to like in the past or used to wear, but given an updated spin. I find that if I like something it's usually because there is some sort of familiarity. I'm a classic girl, I'm not the person who wears the directional Prada or Balenciaga ugly shoe!

Grazia Daily: Which was your favourite London Fashion Week Spring/ Summer 2013 show and why?

Navaz: I just discovered Claire Barrow at the Fashion East show. I loved her vision of youthful rebellion done with finesse and polish. Philip Treacy was an incredible spectacle for obvious reasons!

Grazia Daily: Which brands do you rely on?

Navaz: Cos, Levi's, Church's, Margaret Howell, Converse, Ralph Lauren and Topshop.

Grazia Daily: What are your top tips for shopping on a budget?

Navaz: Look for hardly-worn vintage and deadstock. Things were made to last in the old days - I buy deadstock Converse on eBay as the quality and finish are so much better. Also, check out the menswear departments. The menswear in stores like Topman and Reiss is getting more adventurous as men become more interested in fashion and bolder in their choices.

Grazia Daily: Which other fashion blogs do you love?

Navaz: Turned Out, Charlie Porter, Coco's Tea Party and Style Bubble.
