Paule Ka's Serge Cajfinger On Dressing Kate Middleton And The Brand's New London Store

16 October 2012 by

Grazia Daily reported last week how the Duchess of Cambridge attended the Middle Temple Treasury to launch a scholarship for law students from disadvantaged backgrounds wearing a wool skirt suit in a sumptuous burgundy hue by Paule Ka. And as keen followers of Kate's fashion triumphs when we were offered the chance to talk to the man behind the French brand, designer Serge Cajfinger, to coincide with the new Paule Ka London store opening we jumped at the chance.

Naturally we wanted to find out whether Serge had known that Kate was about to step out in one of his designs ahead of the occasion. He explained, "Absolutely not! A few days before the opening of my Mount Street store, it was a wonderful gift." New York designer Prabal Gurung had a similar reaction when the DOC wore one of his dresses on her official tour of the Far East: “It was so surreal, I still can't believe it is actually happening to me!”

Serge has nothing but praise for Kate when he spoke to Grazia Daily exclusively saying, "The Duchess is young, beautiful and has a real sense of elegance. I am very happy she wears Paule Ka, she is both a Princess and a modern woman. She knows how to behave and she also has the know-how in any circumstances which could be the definition of the Paule Ka woman." So which other Paule Ka looks would he like to see her wear? "The embroidered black and white dress from the Black Carpet collection I designed this year. I am sure she would look stunning in this evening dress."

If you want to check out the collection for yourself the new Paule Ka store is open now in Mayfair London, and it's pretty damn chic! Serge explains: "I designed the place as a journey within elegance. As I did choose all the furniture myself, I must say this store is important to me. Hence this year I have reworked the concept of my boutiques, Mount Street will reveal this new design for the first time in the UK." And Kate's not the only British woman who has caught Serge's eye it seems. Asked about the difference between British and French style the designer revealed: "British women know really well how to twist fashion, they can be more daring than French women sometimes, it's fun."
